Here at PG Paper, we work in partnership with international suppliers of high-quality Folding Box Board (FBB) to meet the demands of our client base. We currently have direct relationships with European suppliers in Belgium, Germany and Turkey. Beyond Europe, we also source reliable FBB from suppliers in India and USA.
As paper and packaging demand soared in 2021, the requirements for FBB across our international markets increased rapidly, with it becoming one of our most sought-after product offerings. So, what properties make Folding Box Board so popular?
What is Folding Box Board?
Folding Box Board (FBB) is a virgin-fiber paperboard that consists of three layers, two layers of chemically bleached pulp and a middle layer of mechanical corrugated pulp sandwiched in between. FBB is manufactured with bleach coated fibers on the top layer, with the other side being white (GC1), cream (GC2) or brown (GC3).
Folding Box Board is durable, flexible and when partnered with its attractive shiny white finish, FBB makes for one of the most premium forms of packaging. One of the key reasons this paperboard is in such high demand is its customizability, allowing it to stand out as one of the most prominent forms of packaging in markets such as pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. In addition, FBB is often produced with recyclable materials, appealing to consumers who value sustainability in their purchasing decisions.
What’s driving FBB demand?
Over the past 5-10 years, the packaging industry has seen rapid growth in the demand for FBB, particularly across Europe and North America. With sustainability now more of a focus for many businesses globally, organisations are searching for alternative solutions to plastic, and the demand for paperboard packaging solutions such as FBB has accelerated. Not only has business ideology shifted, so have consumer attitudes, with sustainability playing a huge factor in the purchasing process.
The Directive on Single Use Plastics
New legislation introduced by governing bodies has forced the growth in paperboard demand. ‘The Directive on Single Use Plastics’ was introduced by the EU in July last year, aiming to clear up ocean pollution by minimizing single-use plastics with sustainable alternatives, driving the growth of products such as FBB, especially within Europe.UK manufacturers and exporters will this year be affected by new legislation introduced by the British government. Plastic Packaging Tax will take effect from April 1 2022, which means any business producing or selling more than 10 tones of plastic per year will be taxed. This only includes plastic packaging that includes less than 30% recycled plastic. With governing bodies continuing to introduce regulations tackling packaging waste, businesses are having to consider more sustainable options to include within their business strategy.
Why choose FBB?
Folding Box Board is also one of the most diverse materials for innovative packaging solutions. With its structural qualities and printing capabilities at the forefront of its success, companies are constantly coming up with fresh, ingenious ideas on packaging their products. Businesses strive to make their product stand out on supermarket shelves, and there’s no packaging more reliable than FBB when creating packaging designs, making it one of the most desired packaging solutions in the market today.
