Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Senior Logistics Executive Freight Procurement Specialist to drive and oversee the freight procurement activities for international exports and imports. The role is integral to optimizing supply chain operations, negotiating competitive freight rates, and ensuring smooth transportation of goods across international and domestic borders. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of global trade regulations, freight procurement strategies, and logistics coordination and join our diverse and cross-functional international logistics team.
Key Responsibilities:
Freight Procurement and Vendor Management
- Develop and implement strategic freight procurement plans for international exports and imports.
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with shipping lines, hauliers, freight forwarders, and carriers to secure cost-effective and reliable transportation solutions.
- Regular contact with Shipping Lines and Freight Forwarders to ensure that our shipping instructions are being followed and we are receiving accurate transport documents.
International Logistics Coordination:
- Coordinate end-to-end logistics operations for export and import shipments, ensuring compliance with delivery schedules.
- Undertake full accountability for the end to end shipment process from receipt of order through to delivery with the customer at their desired port/inland location.
- Oversee shipment documentation such as Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Track shipments and resolve delays or disruptions in the supply chain.
- Maintaining contact with customers throughout the order process, highlighting any changes in their projected schedule and accommodating any extra requirements that may arise which were not originally shared at point of order.
Cost Optimization:
- Analyse freight costs and implement strategies to minimize expenses while maintaining service quality.
- Conduct market research to stay updated on freight rate trends, global trade lanes, and market conditions.
- Ensure the selection of the most efficient and cost-effective shipping methods.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, customs requirements, and documentation standards.
- Arranging third party documents via Shipping Line accounts, Chamber of Commerce and Banking trade portals.
- Address and mitigate risks related to logistics disruptions, customs delays, or carrier issues.
- Arranging & dispatching shipping documentation to customers/their bank depending on agreed Payment Terms.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Closely working with Procurement, Sales & Rates teams for first view of order, to establish customer expectations and to push for production and sailing schedules which meet these expectations.
- Act as a point of contact for freight-related inquiries from stakeholders and resolve disputes professionally.
- Support project-based freight requirements and ensure timely execution of bulk shipments.
- Continuation of relationship with Suppliers and Warehouses after orders have been placed to coordinate shipments and highlight any extra customer requirements.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field.
- 5-8 years of experience in logistics, freight procurement, or supply chain management, with a focus on international exports and imports.
- In-depth knowledge of global trade practices, shipping terms (e.g., Incoterms), international freight markets, cross-trade and complete order life cycle.
- Strong understanding of customs regulations, documentation, and import/export compliance.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to forward think to allow strategic planning and prioritisation of tasks.
- Ability to use initiative, problem-solving skills and the ability to assess risk and feasibility.
- Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Proficiency in logistics management software and tools (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or other ERP systems).
