The EU Commission has proposed a 12-month delay for the implementation of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The updated timeline means the regulation will take effect for large companies on 30th December 2025, and for micro and small enterprises on 30th June 2026.
This postponement is intended to give businesses more time to ensure a smoother transition, while the objectives of combating deforestation and supporting sustainability remain. The delay proposal requires approval by both the European Parliament and the EU Council, which is expected in due course.
In line with the delay, the Commission has issued new guidance to clarify compliance requirements, including supply chain due diligence, definitions of key terms, and updates on penalties. More information can be found here: EU Deforestation Regulation implementation (europa.eu).
