We have experienced unpredictable circumstances throughout 2023, and our 20th year in business has included several challenges. However, thanks to the PG Paper team’s incredible dedication and resilient attitude, we have worked together to overcome the hurdles that have stood in our way and are proud to have achieved great things over the past year.
As we look towards 2024 and set our strategic goals for the year ahead, we reflect on the significant successes and memorable moments throughout this year. Before we say goodbye to 2023, let’s take a look at some of the standout moments from the last 12 months.
Relaunching Trucard
It was an incredibly proud moment for the entire team to reintroduce this iconic packaging brand to the UK market alongside European mill Mosaico Speciality Papers.
Announcing our strategic partnership in September this year, we were delighted to introduce a new range of high-end, premium packaging solutions exclusively to the UK market. From Marketing to Logistics, every area of the business played a part in this longstanding project, and it was amazing to see the team work together to reintroduce this globally recognised packaging brand.
The new Trucard portfolio includes three new premium grades: trucard® 0 matt, trucard® 1 silk and trucard® 2 silk, best suited for high-end packaging applications, including cosmetics and spirits. The Trucard brand is well known for its exceptionally high-quality paper, and we are thrilled to uphold this reputation as we drive the brand forward in 2024.

Industry Exhibitions
To support the relaunch of the new Trucard range and represent our global mill partners in exclusive markets, the PG Paper team exhibited at several national and international exhibitions throughout 2023.
Following our exciting Trucard announcement, we kicked off the promotional campaign by exhibiting at The Print Show, introducing the new range to industry experts, and presenting product samples for the first time. Receiving positive initial feedback on the new grades was fantastic, and the three-day exhibition was a great platform to mark the return of Trucard in the UK.
Following a successful few days at The Print Show, our team ventured slightly further south to participate in our second exhibition of the week, London Packaging Week, where it was a great experience to engage with key industry players, forge new relationships, and generate positive leads.
PG Paper also exhibited on an international scale in 2023, and following the success of previous events, we travelled to Greater Noida, New Delhi, for Paperex 2023. Due to our extensive customer network in India, our team were delighted to once again attend this exhibition to showcase our range of premium paper solutions and represent our exclusive international partners.
We are great believers in the importance of meeting customers face-to-face, and exhibiting at and visiting many trade events throughout this year has reinforced the importance of these events in driving business success. We are already working on our exhibition strategy for the new year, so be sure to keep an eye on our exhibitions page for more details in 2024.
Team Awards
We were honoured to receive several team and individual awards throughout 2023. At the beginning of the year, we were delighted to receive the award for ‘Exporter of the Year’ at the 6th annual China-Scotland Business Awards. It was a great honour to receive this award on behalf of the entire team, as these awards help recognise and celebrate achievements in trade and investment between Scotland and China.
It was also an incredible year for our International Business Development Manager, Charles Peter, who has been with the business for six years. Last month, Charles travelled to London for the inaugural IOE&IT International Trade Awards, and to both his and the team’s delight, he was crowned winner of the Rising International Trader Award. Charles has been an integral part of our success today, and we are delighted for him to be recognised for his many years of hard work and dedication.
Our CEO, Dr Poonam Gupta OBE, was also triumphant in 2023, as she was awarded The Global Entrepreneur Award within the Scotland and Northern Ireland region at the 11th annual Great British Entrepreneur Awards. It is incredible for Poonam’s entrepreneurial mindset and innovative drive to be recognised once again, which has helped PG Paper become the globally recognised organisation it is today.
We are thrilled to be a part of our team’s recognition for their commitment to the growth of PG Paper, and as we move into the new year, we anticipate our team will excel even further and achieve new accomplishments over the next 12 months.
Growth
Navigating through fluctuating prices and logistical sanctions, the market has posed numerous challenges for us throughout the year. Nevertheless, despite the obstacles encountered, the business has demonstrated resilience, evolving and expanding in diverse ways during our 20th year in business.
Expanding our product portfolio was one of the main goals we set at the beginning of 2023, and we have successfully broadened our product offerings throughout the last year. Relaunching Trucard to the UK market marked a significant milestone in PG Paper’s history, advancing our product portfolio once again and widening our customer base. In addition to the Trucard launch, we have partnered with several international mills to exclusively represent their products in different markets, further adding to our product portfolio and standing us in good stead for the year ahead.
Our commitment to recruiting highly skilled and talented individuals has been integral to the success of PG Paper over the last 20 years and continues to be a core part of our growth plans in 2024. Reflecting on the previous 12 months, we can truly say that our team is stronger now than ever before, with strategic appointments made across the business.
Team growth and acquisition has not only advanced our team, it has also allowed us to expand our reach through new market entry. Recruiting skilled individuals with different roles, experiences and market knowledge has enabled PG Paper to explore new territories and broaden our customer base.
Despite 2023 being a challenging year in many ways, our resilience and dedication have helped us grow different aspects of the business. Our togetherness and tenacious attitude have helped us break barriers and reach new heights in 2023, and we are delighted to celebrate what has been a successful year on our 20th birthday. As we begin to set our strategic growth plans for 2024, we aim to build upon what we have achieved throughout the past year.
As we say goodbye to 2023 and look forward to the year ahead, we would like to thank all of our customers, suppliers and partners across the globe for their continued support over the past year.
We wish you all a happy and healthy festive season and look forward to working with you again in 2024!
