Further Set of Price Increases Announced
SWM International has announced price increases of up to 15% across its engineered papers portfolio, effective from 1st July.
Greif has announced a $50 per ton price increase for all grades of uncoated recycled paperboard (URB) effective from 23rd June with new orders and shipments on and after 26th July.
Sappi Europe announced price increases for Transjet, Basejet, and Inkjet grades by 8-15 % valid for deliveries from 1st July 2021.
And finally, SCA announced an increase in the prices of its white and brown kraftliner in Europe by EUR 50 per tonne. The new price is valid from 1st August.
Mondi Investing €125 Million in its Powerflute Mill in Kuopio, Finland
Mondi has approved a €125 million capital investment project at its semi-chemical fluting mill in Kuopio, Finland, increasing the facility’s capacity by around 55 thousand tonnes per annum. The move will help Mondi to meet growing customer demand; enhance product quality and cost-competitiveness; and strengthen the mill’s environmental performance.
RDM Group Acquires ESKA Group, Global Leader of Solid Board
Reno De Medici S.p.A. has announced its intentions to acquire Fineska B.V., the Dutch holding company of “Eska” Group. The Eska Group is a global leader in the production of solidboard based on 100% recycled fibres in its two factories in the Netherlands, with an overall installed yearly capacity of 290,000 tons.
MM sells Eerbeek and Baiersbronn to Investment Firm for €104.6 Million
The Mayr-Melnhof Group (MM) and a subsidiary of funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, L.P. (“Oaktree”) have reached a firm intention on the sale of MM’s virgin fibre cartonboard mills located in Eerbeek, the Netherlands, and Baiersbronn, Germany, to Oaktree for an equity value of EUR 104.6 million and net debt subject to final closing accounts.
Folding Carton Packaging Market Set to Boom
The global market for folding cartons will be $136.7 billion in 2021, and as the market recovers from COVID-19 disruption global demand will reach $160.0 billion in 2026, according to a new market data study from Smithers.
The Future of Folding Cartons to 2026 shows that the COVID pandemic slowed, but did not reverse, the rising demand for more cartonboard packaging witnessed across the 2010s. Converted carton volumes rose marginally from 48.00 million tonnes in 2019 to 48.30 million tonnes in 2020 and are forecast to rise further to 61.58 million tonnes in 2026. Order the full report here.
