Thermal paper is widely used in POS terminals since it offers increased speed, barcode scanability, and high-temperature stability. Furthermore, exceptional features of thermal paper like durability in comparison to the traditional conventional printed paper and expansion of POS terminals are expected to fuel the market.
The explosive rise of internet shopping and related shipping of products is fuelling a corresponding growth in demand for thermal transfer, direct thermal and digitally printed shipping labels, which sees top paper manufacturers increment production and growth of 7-8% over the next 5 years.
Thermal Paper And The Latin American Markets
Thermal transfer technology is currently gaining widespread adoption from diverse application sectors such as healthcare, transportation, retail, and electronics.
In response as high-speed inkjet printers have proliferated around the world, speciality papermakers have responded with new lines of surface-treated or fully coated papers that function well in combination with the digital print platform, representing a big opportunity to LATAM end-users to increase quality in their finished products printing.
The increasing importance of labelling in industries, such as pharmaceutical, with the application of RFID tags in the medical and healthcare industry, and food and beverage with an aim of providing detailed information on consumables without adulteration is driving the market. For instance, in Mexico, government policies will be set to promote investments at the domestic level, which is expected to boost the national demand.
Also, the emergence of new supermarkets and hypermarkets and the increasing use of thermal paper in cash registers, bill receipts, and ATM rolls are expected to increase product demand.
PG Paper and Our LATAM Customers
Some of our customers have enquired as to any potential impact upon business as a direct result of the ongoing Brexit negotiations between the UK Government and the European Union. We are pleased to allay any concerns or worries that for some of our customers in our key Latin American markets of Mexico, Chile, Peru, and Colombia there is no need for concern! PG Paper, whilst headquartered in the UK, the majority of our business is conducted out with the UK, with no movement of goods to or from the UK to Europe. The Brexit negotiations relate to the movement of goods to/from Europe and the UK. This will have no direct impact on current or future orders with PG Paper.
Vito Castellana, our International Business Development Manager for LATAM commented:
“PG Paper continues to develop existing and new relationships with a growing client base across all Latin American countries – for thermal paper, alongside other speciality and packaging grades.
He added, “Demand for thermal paper continues to flourish across traditional channels that still issue paper receipts to customers at the point of sale, and also amongst those industries using innovative and often more sophisticated e-commerce avenues to sell their products. I look forward to discussing bespoke thermal paper requirements with the label and thermal paper rolls manufacturers across all markets in Latin America.”
