Indian Republic Day celebrated on 26 January to mark the constitution of the newly sovereign state in 1950. It is a national holiday and regarded as one of the most important days in the Indian calendar.
Offices, shops and banks close and there are celebrations throughout the country, particularly in the capital, New Delhi, with parades celebrating the country’s diversity and rich cultural heritage.
As we have strong family ties and business connections with India at PG Paper, we thought it appropriate to hold our own Republic Day celebrations in the office.
Centrepiece of the lunchtime fun was a traditional south Indian chilli and garlic chicken dish served with naan bread and pakora.
As is also traditional on Indian Republic Day we even attempted food representing the colours of India with our version of Indian flag sandwiches.
Here’s to continuing close connections with India!
